What the critics have to say about 2007 in the Rhone -
"Throughout
the southern Rhone, 2007 is the greatest vintage I have tasted in my thirty
years working in that region...nearly every producer has attained largely
unprecedented levels of quality. Morever the vintage is remarkably consistent
from top to bottom."
- Robert M
Parker Jr. from the Wine Advocate
" The 2007 vintage in the southern Rhone has been the subject of
intense scrutiny and sometimes overheated rhetoric virtually since the grapes
landed in the presses. For the most part, the hype is justified. But perhaps
the most pleasant surprise on my annual November tour of the Rhone Valley was
the often superb quality of the wines of the north, particularly
the reds."
- Josh Raynolds from
the International Wine Cellar
All
these wines will arrive at our Midtown store beginning in early of
June, and will be limited in their availability.

"These just in!"
2007 Domaine Boisson Cotes du Rhone
"Under the Domaine Boisson label, the 2007 Cotes du Rhone is finished with a screw cap, a rarity in France.
This blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and the rest Carignan, Cinsault,
and Mourvedre is a delicious, sexy, Provencal fruit bomb displaying
loads of kirsch liqueur, lavender, and other Provencal characteristics.
Medium to full-bodied, lush, and fruity, this hedonistic Cotes du Rhone
can be enjoyed over the next 2-3 years."

2007 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Cotes du Rhone
"Composed of 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre, the sexy,
up-front 2007 Cotes du Rhone exhibits gorgeous levels of kirsch
liqueur, pepper, spice box, and spring flowers. Medium to full-bodied
and silky smooth, it is ideal for drinking over the next 3-4years."

2007 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Chateanuef du Pape 'Tradition'
"Made from the same blend as the 2006, the 2007 Chateauneuf du
Pape possesses a dense ruby/purple hue as well as wonderfully sweet
aromas of blue and black fruits, underbrush, truffles, incense, and
garrigue. It is full-bodied, opulent, fleshy, powerful and substantial
in the mouth. The Usseglios told me they had a couple of lots that went
into this wine that hit nearly 17% natural alcohol! This was not caused
by spiking high temperatures (which the Southern Rhone did not
experience in 2007), but rather by the extraordinarily low yields and
severe drought conditions that existed from spring through the end of
September."

Gomer's 'Green Tag' price: $52.39
2007 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Chateanuef du Pape 'Cuvee de Mon Aieul'
"The
2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Mon Aieul (100% Grenache) represents a
naked expression of the three vineyards planted on sand, clay, and
limestone. There are 1,700 cases of this 2007, which offers a surreal
tasting experience. Soaring aromas of blueberries, black raspberries,
licorice, roasted herbs, and grilled meats are followed by a wine of
superb intensity, purity, multi-dimensions, and an endless finish. It
should be drinkable when released, and age effortlessly for 15-20
years. It reminded me of the utterly profound 2003, with more freshness
and depth."

Gomer's 'Green Tag' price: $105.59

2007 Clos du Mont-Olivet Chateauneuf du Pape
"The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape is
going to have plenty of admirers. Deep plum/ruby to the rim, medium to
full-bodied, with a classic nose of garrigue, smoky meats, loads of
kirsch and black currants,
this broad, dense wine exhibits superb purity, enough acidity for focus
and freshness, and a long, heady finish. This is one of the best
traditional cuvees made in several years."

2007 Domaine de Couron Cotes du Rhone Villages
Gomer's price: $13.59
Delas Cotes du Rhone 'Saint-Esprit'

2007 Domaine la Milliere Chateauneuf du Pape "Vieiles Vignes'
"The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes reveals gorgeous
aromas of spring flowers, crushed black cherries, ink, lavender, and
spice. The wine is dense ruby/purple-hued, deep, and full-bodied with
terrific concentration, a layered texture, and a stunningly long
finish. It should drink beautifully young, yet age for 15 or more
years."
